Karen Kelleher Carneiro is a Publication Designer, Visual Communications Consultant and Creative Director with extensive international experience translating complex technical, policy and humanitarian information into clear, engaging visual communications for United Nations agencies and missions, international organizations, governments and NGOs.

A graduate of Parsons School of Design, Karen specializes in the design and production of technical reports, policy documents, handbooks, toolkits, annual reports, publications, infographics, presentations and communication campaigns for print and digital platforms.

​

Her work spans humanitarian response, criminal justice and rule of law, governance, elections, food security, public health, child protection, gender equality, environmental sustainability, human rights and international development. She has worked with organizations including UNICEF, UNDP, FAO, OCHA, UN Women, UNOPS, UNODC,  USAID and the World Bank.

International & Field Experience

With 16 years of field experience supporting UN missions in conflict and post-conflict environments, Karen understands the challenges of delivering high-quality communications in demanding conditions. She has extensive experience working across cultures and with technical specialists, editors, communications teams, government counterparts and international partners.

​

She brings a strong understanding of how to transform complex information into publications that are clear, accessible and easy to navigate, while maintaining accuracy, visual consistency and institutional standards. Her experience includes publication structure, typography, information hierarchy, infographics, charts and tables, template development, editorial production and professional print and digital preparation.

Karen is accustomed to managing detailed review and clearance processes, incorporating feedback from multiple stakeholders and delivering polished communications within tight deadlines.

Available for remote consultancy assignments worldwide and international missions as required.

My Approach

​

I believe effective information design should make complex information easier to understand without oversimplifying it.

​

Every project begins with understanding the content, audience and communication objective. From there, I develop a visual structure that gives information hierarchy, clarity and consistency—whether the project is a 300-page technical report, a policy brief, an infographic or a presentation.

My goal is simple: 

Make information clear, memorable and meaningful to its intended audience.
