Dragon fly “Wings”

In the summer we escape to our house in Alentejo, Portugal with its lush gardens and pond full of fish and frogs. I can sit for hours watching the fish swim about, the frogs sunbathing on the rocks and the dragonflies perched on the flora. I photographed close-ups of the dragonflies with their bright blue coloring and fantastic wings. The photos were on my mind and how could I use them. The inspiration came when a dear friend gave me a set of iron dragonfly tablecloth clips. She was going to throw them away, as they were old and oxidized and then she thought perhaps I could use them in my art. I love them – one persons’ trash is another ones gold. They had the rustic, woodsy feel I was looking for and were the foundation along with my photo for the dragonfly box.
