UNDP SECSIP (Strengthening the Electoral Cycle in the Solomon Islands Project) has a required gender component (output 5) to enhance women’s participation for a more cohesive society. In the past, this has resulted in various successful activities. New creative ideas are always sought to continue this support bearing in mind it is a long-term objective. One element identified in the findings of various research studies and reflected in the mandated SECSIP Project Document was how important it is to have ‘experience in community service’ and a ‘reputation for helping’ to be perceived as a woman leader. The Outstanding Women initiative grew out of this process.

The logo and artwork were developed with the expert artistic advice of consultant Karen Kelleher Carneiro. Loretta Taika who sang and arranged the production of the song ‘Women Rise Up’, the lyrics which were repeated as part of the booklet design. There are 11 women chosen for the Outstanding Women of the Community (one from each island group and two from the capital Honiara). Within the booklet the women share their story along with a photo.

The campaign includes: logo design, booklet, posters, flyers, banner, tote bag and video.
