This unique Cross and Sacred Heart box is handcrafted and signed by Karen Kelleher Carneiro. A perfect home for jewelry, keepsakes or as a beautiful gift. Inspired by Mexican folk art, crosses and sacred hearts I collected in Mexico, it is a one of a kind functional piece of art.

 

The wooden box has been enhanced with gold leaf and patinas in reds, blues and browns. Protected with a glossy resin finish, easily cleaned with a damp cloth.

 

The decorative lid has a Mexican ceramic cross, Sacred hearts, metal crosses and hearts painted in bright colors. Lace-like paper and skeleton leaves in magenta and blue adorn the lid. The sides are decorated with skeleton laves, painted crosses, hearts and wings. The lid is hinged in the back with a front latch. Gold metallic trim wraps around the top edge. The bottom is felt lined with decorative beads for legs.

 

The interior is painted a metallic espresso and varnished. The padded bottom is lined with a bright blue taffeta. The interior lid is lined with lace-like, skeleton leaves, painted crosses and hearts with a protective glossy resin finish. Embedded into the resin is an antique miniature painting of Saint Miguel, protector of police officers.
